4 of 5 Pretty good product Saturday, November 15, 2008 Mark from Oregon City, Oregon
The hot-key and manual button (to switch PCs) are a must for any KVM. Had problems w/ the hot-key w/ KVMs in the past that didn't have a manual button. This is one of the few KVMs that got 'decent' reviews having both features.
1) The biggest problem was there was ghosting of images. I run my screen resolution at 32bit & 1600x1200 using 96dpi. It only became apparent (to me) when running a web browser. At that resolution, it causes blurring of some of the letters. Unfortunately by that time, I had already cut-out the UPC label from the package as part of the rebate requirements, and I was unable to return the product for replacement.
2) For whatever reason, the audio didn't function on the 2nd PC.
Called DLink support and was told it was a defective unit. Because of the reason already explained, I couldn't return it but bought another one (same make/model), hoping things would be better. It arrived and I plugged it in. There is still ghosting but not significant as the 1st unit and therefore not as annoying. The ghosting does go away when at 1440x900. The audio now functions properly.
If you don't need high resolutions, it is a very good product for ease of use especially for the cost. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 KVM Switch with sound Wednesday, October 01, 2008 Waterdolphin01 from No. Berwick, Me.
I got this switch because I work on computers now and again. This switch makes it easier to hook up 2 cpus at the same time while using 1 keyboard, mouse and monitor (and now speakers). I like the fact that the sound is included with the switch because losing sound drivers and graphics are the most frequent problems with cpu. I had another KVM switch that were the cables connected to the little box but one of the cables stopped working. This switch is good because if a cable stops working you just need to swap it out. On my other switch you can't change the cables. With the new switch you have the option to swap from computer to computer either by the keyboard or by the select button on the KVM switch. It also shows which computer you are looking at (1 or 2). I only got the 2 switch because of space. This is very convenient and easy to use and setup. I would recommend to anyone.
I will also say the company Buy.com is excellent. They have good prices and ship fast. Great to do business with. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Great KVM for the $ Monday, August 11, 2008 Jru from Wisconsin
Just got this KVM last week for $15 after $10 MIR. We have needed one of these at work for some time but never actually got one until now. It works as advertised although we have not used any audio function so I cannot comment on the usability of the audio switching. As far as switching a ps2 mouse, ps2 keyboard, and VGA monitor; it works great.
The only concern (and it is just the way the computers/windows works)is that if you reboot or turn on a computer, you must have the KVM switched to it or the mouse/keyboard will not work. The monitor will work but windows will not recognize the mouse or keyboard. If you get a KVM that uses USB mouse and keyboard you will not have this issue. Was this review helpful?

<p> Package showed up quickly and undamaged and hooked up nicely. I had some issues with my audio. At times it works fine, others not at all. More annoying was when I would hear stuff happening on the first computer even when I was switched to the second. </p>
<p> Tech support is completely worthless. The number in the manual is actually fake. It does not go to tech support, it goes to a sex chat hotline. I suppose some of the ladies may have been able to help me, but I hung up after the message started calling me rather nasty things. Try 1-877-453-5465 if you don't believe me. It is also listed here http://support.dlink.com/contact/ticket.asp?model=KVM%2D121 </P>
<p> Email support was not much better. They simply told me to buy new speakers. Right, I will scrap my name brand $200 system because a crappy little part does not function correctly. They also refused to comment on the fake support number. </p>
<p> I got the problem fixed luckily and it has worked fine since. Sometimes I need to reboot when the mouse and keyboard fail to recognize. </p>
<p> In all, a decent buy, if it works out of the box for you. God help you if you have to call in support for this thing. </p> Was this review helpful?

The product installed easily and worked well until the audio quit working completely after less than a month. It's definitely the switch or the cabling to the switch because the audio works fine plugged directly into my computer. <br><br>
The only reason I purchased the switch was to upgrade my older KVM switch to one that had audio, so I was quite disappointed. I can not return it to Buy.com because I've had it more than 14 days. I will see what satisfaction I can get from D-Link. I originally rated it a 4 for value, because for the price I paid it's still a very inexpensive KVM switch and all the other features are still working. However, I have downgraded the value to a 3 because of the frustration I have encountered dealing with D-Link's tech support as detailed below. I have downgraded the performance to a 2, because it is supposed to support audio switching and it doesn't. However, it does work effectively to switch the keyboard, mouse and monitor. <br><br>
I have tried without success to obtain a return authorization from D-Link. My first contact was via e-mail and I described the problem as I have above. I was assigned a case number and told to call their 800 tech support number. Over a period of five days I called repeatedly at all hours of the day and could not get through to anyone in tech support. I sent a reply e-mail asking if there was a specific extension to which I could be directed. The tech responded to my e-mail stating they had been having phone problems, try again. <br><br>
I waited a couple of weeks in hopes that their "phone problems" would be resolved and tried again. On my next attempt I spent approximately 20 minutes on the phone working my way through their menu tree and waiting on hold before speaking to a tech. I told him I had a case id number and gave that to him. I spent 10 minutes verifying with him what I had already reported in the original e-mail I sent. He gave me a new number. I read the number back to him and he verified it. I asked him what I was supposed to do with that number. He told me I had to visit their website and input the number to receive further instructions. <br><br>
That seemed like just another hurdle for the consumer but I complied. I visited rma.dlink.com and input the number provided along with my phone number and received the following message - "The Case ID you provided was not found in our records" I double checked the number and tried again with the same results prompting a third e-mail to tech support. Today I received this reply, "Upon review of your concerns, it is advisable to inform that unfortunately this Case ID was not completed correctly for the RMA to occur. Call our Tech Support Dept. at 1(800)326-1688 for our third level support." <br><br>
They have won the battle because I am unwilling to spend any more time trying to replace this defective product. However, it's unlikely I will purchase a D-Link product of any kind again.

4 of 5 D-Link KVM switch Saturday, December 22, 2007 A Customer from Port Angeles, WA
Good price. Nice to get that extra monitor off my desk. Haven't been able to get my wireless mouse to work with it, but may experiment around with it some more. My main computer has a 2-monitor setup, which I was able to get to work with this. It did take some trial and error to figure out which monitor plug in where, though. Was this review helpful?
